What does the IUIF Fellowship involve?

The Fellowship includes intensive communication- and media-related training inputs; practical assignments; and continuous mentoring by SBCC professionals

The current IUIF Fellows come from a variety of communication and non-communication backgrounds: Education. Journalism. Psychology. Governance.

Abed Husen Shakil Sayyad

From Gadchiroli, Maharashtra. Graduate in social sciences with deep interest in grassroots activism and youth issues.

Abirami Raveendranath

From Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Passionate about issues around LGBTQI+, women’s rights, colourism and casteism. An undergraduate in sociology with an aim to use collective action to bring about social change.

Afreen Fatima

From Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. A graduate and postgraduate in Linguistics. Dedicated social activist with interest in minority rights.

Ann Mary Biju

From Kochi, Kerala. Masters in Development studies and an undergraduate in economics with experience as a researcher. Believes in gender equality for sustained development.

Anvita Viswanathan

From Hyderabad, Telangana. An engineer by profession with deep interest in working with marginalized children in eradicating poverty.  

Anway Avinash Gaikwad

From Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Passionate about community development through interactive technological tools . Holds an undergraduate degree in Journalism.

Divya Patnaik

From Odisha. Masters in Women Studies and an undergraduate in Social Sciences. Interested in intersectionality of technology, gender and digital rights.

Garvita Singh

From Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Postgraduate in sociology, passionate about exploring discourses around disability and chronic illnesses.

Hameem Muhammad A

From Kollam, Kerala. An engineer turned educator. Interested in developing community based models for sustained education and social entrepreneurship.

Kumar Chandan Samal

From Ganjam, Odisha. An undergraduate in Journalism with interest in exploring LGBTQI+ rights, complexities of matrilineal practices and gendered division of labour.

Marissa Ashwarya Coelho

From Salcete, Goa. Masters and bachelors in microbiology. Interested in exploring environmental conversation and social barriers that surround it.

From Kozhikode, Kerala. A sociology graduate interested in developing ethnographic documentation of social issues through the mediums of photography and film.

From Perinthalmanna, Kerala. Masters in Comparative Literature. Interested in exploring the intersections of Cultural Religion.

From Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir. A trained lawyer with experience in literature. Aspires to work with communities to increase awareness about law and legal recourse.

From Mumbai, Maharashtra. A chartered accountant by profession with a bachelors in commerce. Interested in exploring the intersections of reproductive health, gender and other social issues.

Rahul Kumar

From Buxar, Bihar. A postgraduate in Society and Culture with a bachelor in social sciences. Interested in community development and social inclusion through policy interventions.

From Ambala, Haryana. An undergraduate in Journalism with interest in exploring rural realities of India.

From Malappuram, Kerala. Holds a diploma in electronic cinematography with a bachelors in physics. Passionate about exploring social and lived realities of gender and class through photography.

Sai Ganesh Akarapu

From Warangal, Telangana. A sociology postgraduate with bachelors in biotechnology. Interested in exploring concepts and narratives on human rights, purity and hierarchy through the lens of caste.

Sai Sreshta Ladegam

From Nizamabad, Telangana. Postgraduate in communication with a bachelors in computer science and engineering. Interested in research in the areas of digital media and human rights.

From Sirali, Madhya Pradesh. A postgraduate in convergent journalism. Aims to work on issues around women’s rights, anti-caste movements, and tribal issues.

Shurabhi Shukla

From Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. A social science and humanities graduate with keen interest in exploring class divide and social inequalities.
